In a recent interview with Financial Times, the U.S. Senior Advisor for Africa, Massad Boulos, publicly acknowledged that he is pursuing a plan to unify the Dabaiba and Haftar families into one government.
According to the interview, the current negotiations aim to appoint Libyan National Army (LNA) Deputy Commander Saddam Haftar as the Chairman of the Presidential Council (PC) while retaining Government of National Unity (GNU) Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dabaiba in his current role.
This article confirms previous reporting from Libya Desk over the past couple of months, which has highlighted the trends and current issues taking place between the Dabaiba and Haftar camps.
While both sides are not yet at a final agreement, they have settled a number of issues between them so far. Sources have stated that secret talks were held in the United Arab Emirates between Saddam Haftar and Dabaiba's nephew, Ibrahim Dabaiba. As previously reported by The Libya Desk, both sides have so far agreed to undertake a complete overhaul of the boards of the National Oil Corporation (NOC), the Libyan Investment Authority (LIA), the Libyan Foreign Bank (LFB), and more.
