Haftar in Islamabad: a new strategic axis?

Relations between the Libyan National Army and Pakistan are becoming more concrete as Haftar visits the Pakistani capital.

Haftar in Islamabad: a new strategic axis?
Published:

Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar has arrived in Islamabad at the head of a high-profile Libyan National Army (LNA) delegation that includes his deputy commander and son, Saddam Haftar, and representatives of Libyaโ€™s eastern-based government.

The visit, conducted with little public fanfare, signals a deepening military-security relationship between the LNA and Pakistan at a moment of shifting geopolitical alignments.

The trip follows Saddam Haftarโ€™s earlier visit to Islamabad and a reciprocal visit by Pakistanโ€™s military leadership to Benghazi in mid-December 2025, where Pakistanโ€™s army chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, was formally received by Haftar.

During that visit, Munir co-chaired meetings with Saddam Haftar and praised the LNAโ€™s consolidation of authority and its role in rebuilding Libyaโ€™s eastern military structures.
