On 22 October, the House of Representatives (HoR) formally announced that it had accepted the resignation of Central Bank of Libya (CBL) Governor Naji Issa, which was submitted in August 2026. The HoR stated that he would be replaced on an interim basis by Fawzi Abukhazam, a member of the CBL board from Fezzan, alongside a five-member transition committee.
Libyan media have reported that Abukhazam and the five-member committee have already entered the CBL headquarters in Tripoli.
Naji Issa has since released a statement rejecting his dismissal, saying that the HoR had previously refused his resignation. Issa's allies have so far retained control over official communications, as the CBL released a statement condemning what it called a โforced entryโ and accusing the Ministry of Defence of failing to defend the building.
Sources have informed The Geopolitical Desk that there had been active preparations between eastern and western Libyan factions to secure his removal.
