Efforts ongoing to revive the development of Libya's NC7 field

Despite widespread opposition to a potential deal, this new development brings back the Eni-led consortium to the fold and could draw major political battles in the coming weeks.

A month after the suspension of Minister of Oil and Gas Mohamed Aoun, the Government of National Unity (GNU) Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dabaiba and National Oil Corporation (NOC) Chairman Farhat Bengdara are now actively pursuing the file of the NC7 gas field in the Hamada Basin.

In tandem with his efforts to reshape Tripoli’s security landscape to remain in power, Dabaiba has actively sought to gain a more controlling hand over Libya’s energy industry. This is crucial for his political survival as the GNU Prime Minister has been abandoned by the Central Bank of Libya (CBL) Governor, Sadiq al-Kabir, and faced acute financial pressures as a result.
